As a matter of fact, most essential oils have strong antibacterial, antifungal and antimicrobial properties, which makes them a great addition to your home-made cleaning products.
Chemical-free cleaning with essential oils
Home-made cleaning products containing essential oils are very easy to make. You can use any essential oil you would like, but we recommend sticking to the more “traditional” ones, such as lemon, cinnamon, pine, eucalyptus, mint, lavender, grapefruit, tea tree, rosemary, as well as all kinds of citrus essential oils.
Here are several easy and efficient essential oil recipes that are not only chemical-free but will also help you with your everyday home cleaning routine:
1. Lemon essential oil recipe
Lemon essential oil is a natural antibacterial and antimicrobial substance, which makes it a great choice for your kitchen, since it is able to dissolve oily stains and dirt in just a few minutes.
In order to get an efficient home-made detergent, you will need 150ml distilled water, 150ml white vinegar, 1 tea spoon of baking soda and 20 drops of lemon essential oil. Mix the ingredients in a plastic spray bottle and shake it well. Now you can use the mixture on various surfaces at your home in order to clean and disinfect the whole place. Not only will you be able to clean your home up without any chemicals, but the aroma will make the process more pleasant.
2. Orange essential oil recipe
The orange essential oil is also a great choice for your home cleaning and maintenance routine. It is one of the most preferred essential oils when it cones to fridge cleaning, as well as various surfaces and cutting-boards disinfection.
In order for you to make an efficient dish-washing product you will need ½ teaspoon of orange essential oil, 150gr Castile soap and distilled water. Put the ingredients in a plastic bottle and shake it well in order to mix them properly.
3. Tea tree essential oil recipe

You can make a powerful domestic cleaning product by simply mixing 350gr baking soda and 150ml liquid Castile soap in a large bowl. The paste is then mixed with 150ml water and 2 soup spoons of white vinegar. Mix carefully, and then add 30 drops of tea tree essential oils. Mix well, until all lumps disappear.
4. Mint essential oil recipe
The mint essential oil has proved its great properties of a fantastic addition to various home-made detergents. One of the easiest cleaning products you can make all by yourself require only 75gr baking soda, 150ml white vinegar and 5 drops of mint essential oil. It is great for bathtub and sink cleaning.
5. Lavender essential oil recipe
The lavender essential oil is probably best known for its calming and relaxing properties, but it is also great for disinfection. All you have to do is mix 2 teaspoons of white vinegar and 1 teaspoon of borax in a bottle and add 200ml warm distilled water. Then shake well and add 75gr liquid Castile soap, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice as well as 10 drops of lavender essential oil. Remember to always shake well before you use the product.
